Residents can now subscribe to Cannock Chase Council’s garden waste service. The cost is £38.50 per brown bin collected. The subscription covers the period 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.

The new subscription scheme was announced back in September and followed a decision in March, by the previous administration, to introduce charging as a way of helping to meet a shortfall in the Council’s budget. Cannock Chase Council becomes one of the last councils in Staffordshire to introduce garden waste charging.

Councils are not required to fund garden waste collections as part of their statutory duties, but many have decided to continue providing this valued service, albeit with an annual cost.

To subscribe to the service, residents should go to www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/brownbin and click the box `Sign up for your subscription here`. Once subscribed, residents will receive information about the service including a permit to apply underneath the handle of the brown bin. The brown bins will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks to green bin collections.

Meanwhile, help is at hand for those residents seeking assistance to make their payment.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays between 23 January and 29 February (10am to 12noon on Tuesdays and 2pm to 4pm on Thursdays), Council customer services staff will be available in the reception at the Civic Centre on Beecroft Road, Cannock, to provide assistance on the  customer portal to enable customers to make their subscription payments online. Residents will be supported to do this as staff become available.

Residents who do not want to subscribe to the service are required to keep their brown bin in case a future occupant of the property wishes to subscribe to the service.

Waste and recycling collection calendars for 2024 are now available on the Council’s website. They also provide information about collections over bank holidays and the upcoming festive period. To download a copy, relevant to your normal collection day, visit www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/calendars.

Residents should note that printed copies of the calendars are no longer being delivered to households.
