Teaching staff from across the District have attended an event to find out more about how arts and culture can contribute to their curriculum and support children and young people throughout their learning experiences.

The Creative Education Tea Party was hosted last Friday by the Cannock Chase Cultural Education Partnership (CCCEP) which provides and encourages creative opportunities for children and young people.

The event brought together teachers and education staff from local primary and secondary schools with the goal of establishing a district wide ‘teacher’s network’ which will help shape the future delivery of the local CCCEP and creative activities for children and young people.

Local art and culture organisations were present to showcase local opportunities and artists provided first-hand experiences which could add real value to local schools and their wider curriculum.

Louise Rose, Chair of Cannock Chase Cultural Education Partnership, said  “It has been a great opportunity of meeting local teaching staff at this event. We hope staff have found the session useful and have built on their knowledge of local creative opportunities that can benefit their school offer.

“It is hoped by working together and establishing a District wide network, teachers will be able to reflect on their practices, share ideas, thinking and resources and gain support as well as feeling part of a wider ‘community’ group.”

David Jobburns, Headteacher of St. Joseph’s Primary School in Rugeley said  "As a school we wanted to improve the curriculum offer so our children could experience the arts and aspire to achieve well in this field.

“Working with CCCEP has opened doors to a wide variety of opportunities and allowed us to meet new people with a real passion for the arts. As a result of this we have developed our curriculum and children of St Joseph's Rugeley have been involved in exciting creative projects linking to the Commonwealth Games and an augmented reality project on Cannock Chase.

“It has also allowed us to create a network of teachers who can share good practice with each other and ensure the whole community benefit from all that is on offer not just one school. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership”.
