Cannock Chase Council, in partnership with Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL) and the Football Foundation are investing £1.25m to improve facilities at Rugeley Leisure Centre.

Improvement works include, the installation of a new heating, hot water and energy system within the centre; this work is a prerequisite to the recommissioning of the swimming pool.  The swimming pool will be retiled and recommissioned as part of the new pool plant and water treatment systems.  This work is scheduled to complete at the end of August 2021.

In addition to the repair works, the Council, IHL and The Football Foundation have commissioned a project to create a state of the art, outdoor 3G artificial grass pitch, with low energy LED floodlights.  The car park facilities will be extended and will include electric vehicle charging points.  This work will cost £0.75m and is due to be completed in early September 2021.

Councillor Adrienne Fitzgerald, Portfolio Leader for Housing, Heritage & Leisure, said “I am delighted with the investment into Rugeley Leisure Centre; improving community wellbeing is a priority for the Council.  Leisure facilities in the District have suffered with closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Rugeley Leisure Centre has had the additional problems with the heating and tiling in the swimming pool.  The Council, IHL and their contractors are working hard to resolve the issues and we are all looking forward to the pool re-opening to residents late August.

“I would like to thank residents for their patience during these issues and would remind them in the meantime they can use the swimming pool at Chase Leisure Centre, whilst we wait for the repairs to be completed.

“The full sized all weather 3G grass pitch will be an excellent addition to the current facilities at Rugeley Leisure Centre and we are grateful for the funding that has been allocated by the Football Foundation.

“The leisure centre will remain open to the public throughout the works and we will endeavour to minimise disruption to services”.

Work started on Monday (17 May 2021) and is set to be complete by early September 2021.
