Cannock Chase District residents are being reminded that its outdoor `street` market in Cannock town centre is returning from Friday with risk assessments, social distancing and a new layout to manage queuing safely, all in place.

The market in Market Place usually extends to Market Hall Street but this part of the market will temporarily move to Market Place to allow for adequate social distancing along Market Hall Street.

Shoppers will be able to support the local economy as over 20 traders make their way back to Cannock each Friday selling a wide range of goods including fruit and vegetables, baked products and household essentials.

The market is operated on behalf of Cannock Chase Council by Sketts. Earlier this month, the outdoor market in Rugeley returned to business. While plans to re-open the Council’s indoor markets in Cannock and Rugeley are progressing, with return dates expected to be confirmed later this month.

Councillor Gordon Alcott, Portfolio Leader for Town Centre Regeneration said: “A lot of planning has been put into the re-opening of the outdoor markets in the District, to ensure that the appropriate social distancing measures are in place and that all operators are following government guidance.

“We would remind visitors that everyone needs to observe the measures being put in place, otherwise there is a risk that the markets could be closed down again.”
