Time to clean some space on your fridge, as the revamped waste and recycling calendars for 2017/18 are on their way to residents in Cannock Chase.
The new calendars will be distributed to 42,500 households in the District over the next few weeks and include important Christmas collection changes.
The calendars which form part of an information booklet have been revamped to make it easier for residents to see which item goes in which bin, using the icons that were used in the successful contamination campaign.
Our recent contamination campaign meant that we had 12 months contamination free; however we had two rejected loads of dry recycling last month, because they contained nappies and food waste. We would remind residents to be diligent and to only recycle the correct items.
Councillor John Preece, Portfolio Leader for the Environment said “It is important that residents make room and keep these calendars on the fridge. Not only as a reminder of when to put the bins out but also as a reminder of what goes in which bin."
“It is disappointing that we have had recent reports of contamination in our blue bin recycling. We believe that the majority of residents have made a real effort to recycle correctly. The contaminated loads had to be stopped before they made it through to the sorting line, which is done by hand".
Residents are reminded that any bin found to have the wrong items in will not be emptied and will receive a warning tag.
