The Council is aware that there has been media coverage about the presence of three tigers and two lions on non-domestic premises in the District.

We can confirm that these animals are being kept on the site in accordance with a Licence issued by the Council under the Dangerous Wild Animals (DWA) Act.

Several recent site inspections have been made by Council Officers and other agencies, including the Council’s appointed vet.  We can confirm that the facilities on site satisfy the requirements of the Licence.

We understand that the owners of the animals are seeking to obtain a circus licence, which would impose different requirements to the DWA licence.  A circus licence would be issued by DEFRA (a central government department) not Cannock Chase Council.
