Cannock Council’s Cabinet approved free leisure concessions for serving members of the armed forces, who are resident in the District, at its meeting last night.

The concession scheme was first introduced in June 2012 and currently has 135 members.  Council’s Cabinet have approved the leisure concession scheme for the next year, 2016/17.

This scheme is recognition of the commitment made by armed forces men and women to this country in their service throughout the world.

The scheme includes use of fitness suites, swimming pools and participation in various group activities and fitness classes at Chase and Rugeley Leisure Centres.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport said “I am delighted that we are able to continue to provide residents who are serving members of the Armed Forces with free use of our leisure centres.  Increased participation in sports and physical activity is one of the Council’s ongoing priorities.  This concession scheme will help to improve the health and wellbeing of our local serving members.

This is another great example of us working with our partners Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles who manage our leisure facilities.”
