A consecration ceremony has been held at the recently extended Stile Cop Cemetery where it was consecrated by the Bishop of Wolverhampton.

The consecration service was held on the afternoon of 24th September led by Rt. Revd. Clive Gregory, Bishop of Wolverhampton. The service was attended by the Council’s Chairman Maureen Freeman, Council Leader George Adamson, elected members and Council officials.

Stile Cop has received an investment of £295K of extension works over the last couple of years.  The works included widening the existing entrance to enable two-way traffic, installation of new gates, additional access roads and paths to service the new burial areas, including installing water points, a new site compound and storage area and finally additional car parking and re-surfacing of the original car park.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport said “It was a beautiful day for the consecration ceremony, it was well attended and a very a moving experience.  It is a lovely area for residents in the District and with the extension it provides an additional 1,000 adult graves, which at the current burial rate is sufficient for another 7-10 years.  I thank everyone for their hard work on Stile Cop; they have made a really good job of it.”
