Playtime Makeover! Exciting new Flaxley Road Park revamp begins soon!

Flaxley Road play area

Published: Tuesday, 19th November 2024

Cannock Chase Council is delighted to announce that work will soon begin on the exciting redevelopment of the Flaxley Road play area in Rugeley’s Pear Tree Estate.

With an investment of £141,770, the project will transform the current space into a safe, welcoming area with new accessible play equipment, a circular path for walking and cycling, seating, bins, and tree planting. Contractors are set to arrive on-site this month, with a goal to complete the project before Christmas.

Flaxley Road play area had become worn and following recent incidents of vandalism, was temporarily closed to ensure safety. The redevelopment is therefore a much-anticipated improvement, that will renew community pride and create a safe, vibrant space for residents of all ages.

This long-awaited improvement forms part of the Council’s wider play area enhancement program aimed at creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments across the district.

Residents can expect updates on the new design and its features through a mailshot and social media, providing a sneak peek of the exciting additions planned.

Councillor John Preece, Portfolio Leader for Parks, Culture and Heritage, said:
“We’re excited to bring these much-needed improvements to Flaxley Road. This project is about more than just updating playground equipment; it’s about creating a space that the whole community can enjoy and be proud of. By investing in Flaxley Road’s play area, we’re working to ensure that families have a safe, welcoming, and accessible place to gather, play, and enjoy nature”.

The Council’s goal is to create a vibrant and well-loved community space for everyone, so we’ll also be supporting a new ‘Friends of Flaxley Road’ group, where residents can play a part in caring for the area and ensuring it remains a safe and enjoyable space for all.
