Following a successful recruitment drive in September last year, nine people have been appointed to the newly formed Housing Board at Cannock Chase Council.
The Housing Board has launched in response to new regulations from the Regulator of Social Housing’s new Consumer Standards and a commitment to improve transparency and engagement, ensuring that the tenants voice is heard.
The formation of the Housing Board is part of the Council’s commitment to ensuring that policies and strategies reflect the real needs and experiences of residents in Cannock Chase. The Board will help drive improvements in housing services and ensure effective decision-making.
The Board consists of three elected Councillors, three independent members, and three tenants of Cannock Chase Council, bringing together a diverse range of expertise and perspectives.
Independent Members:
• Andrew Kenny – Executive Director of Property, Housing Plus
• Sarah Johnson – Director of Governance and Legal, WHG (Walsall Housing Group)
• Lucy Cunnett – Homes Manager, Tamworth MBC
Tenant Members:
• Brian Murphy – Tenant of 30 years, retired gas engineer
• Natasha Howells – Tenant of 4 months, Income Management Assistant, CCDC
• Gary Pace – Tenant of 30 years, retired
Councillor Members:
• Councillor Tony Johnson
• Councillor Sue Thornley
• Councillor Philippa Haden
Councillor Sue Thornley, Portfolio Leader for Housing and Corporate Assets, said: “I’m delighted that all positions on the Housing Board have been filled. The quality of candidates was exceptional, and we’re confident it will be a strong and effective team. Although the Housing Board members won’t have decision-making powers, they will ensure tenants have a voice, offering recommendations to Cabinet and reviewing policies and procedures.”
The first meeting of the Board is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5 February, where new members will meet each other and key officers from across the Housing Service.
