Cannock Park’s newest attraction has now been officially named following a public competition. After an excellent response from residents, the winning name Barney was selected from numerous creative suggestions, nominated by Beverly Griffin.

The winner received a personalised book cushion with a dinosaur-themed storybook, along with a family ticket to Jurassic Creek Adventure Golf. The official naming ceremony took place on Wednesday 20 August, where the winner’s niece attended on their behalf to receive the prize from the Chairman of the Council.

The dinosaur sculpture was generously donated to Cannock Chase Council by the Forest of Mercia, as part of their commitment to enhancing community spaces and encouraging families to enjoy the outdoors.

Councillor Steve Thornley, Chairman of Cannock Chase Council, said: “Barney has quickly become a popular and much-loved feature of Cannock Park. It has been wonderful to see so many residents take part in the competition, and we are extremely grateful to the Forest of Mercia for this generous gift, which will be enjoyed by visitors for years to come.”

With the naming competition now complete, residents and visitors are encouraged to visit Cannock Park to see Barney for themselves, explore the recent park improvements, and enjoy the newly opened children’s play area – providing something for all ages to enjoy.
