As the programme draws to a close, Cannock Chase Council is highlighting the significant impact of UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) investment, which has helped more than 350 residents access the benefits and financial support they are entitled to.

Delivered by Citizens Advice Staffordshire South West, the service has supported households to understand their entitlements, make claims correctly, and receive guidance throughout appeals and tribunal processes. The programme has played a crucial role in meeting the growing need for welfare support across the district, as many residents continue to face financial pressures linked to the cost of living crisis.

The initiative has been particularly important for vulnerable residents, including people out of work, those in low paid jobs, and individuals living with health conditions. By helping people secure the right benefits, the programme has provided stability and improved wellbeing for many local households.

Key outcomes include:
•    350 households receiving direct support
•    90 residents improving their engagement with services
•    217 people reporting improved personal or financial circumstances

Councillor Garry Samuels, Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets said: “This programme has made a real and lasting difference for hundreds of people across Cannock Chase. At a time when many families are facing increased financial pressures, helping residents access the benefits they are entitled to is absolutely vital. Thanks to UKSPF funding and the expertise of Citizens Advice, vulnerable households have received the support they need to improve their circumstances and move towards greater stability. We are extremely proud of what has been achieved.”

Throughout the course of the programme, demand has remained consistently high. Many clients required help with issues directly related to the rising cost of living, with benefit entitlement being one of the most common areas of advice.

The financial benefit to local households has been significant. Outcomes show that by the end of February, residents secured a combined £1,049,570 through successful claims and appeals—funding that has made a real difference to families struggling to manage essential costs.

Cannock Chase Council recognises the vital role UKSPF funding has played in enabling this support and remains committed to working with partners to ensure vulnerable residents continue to receive the help they need.
