A call has gone out for people to put their names forward to help decide how £20 million of Government funding will be spent in an area of Cannock over the next decade.
The council is looking to recruit an independent chair and members of a new ‘Neighbourhood Board’ to shape long term investment over the next ten years in a specific area of Chadsmoor.
This area was awarded £20 million over the next ten years as part of the Government’s Pride in Place Programme. This is a long-term community led initiative designed to support stronger communities, create thriving places and give local people greater control over decisions affecting their area. The programme will be delivered locally with Cannock Chase Council acting as the accountable body.
The £2m a year Government funding is targeted at a specific area within Chadsmoor and local residents, business people, voluntary organisations and community leaders are being invited to step forward if they want to have a say on how the money will be spent.
The council along with Cannock Chase MP, Josh Newbury, are looking to appoint someone from the community to fill the chairperson and board members role.
The chair alongside the ‘Neighbourhood Board’, will lead the creation of a 10-year plan based on local priorities, and ensure the community has a voice in decision making while making sure the process is open and transparent.
Councillor Paul Jones, Leader of the Council said: “These roles are an opportunity for someone who cares about their local community and wants to help shape its future. We need people on the board who are strongly connected to the Chadsmoor area and passionate about improving their community. They will champion the views of local people, strengthen community partnerships and support the delivery of this amazing opportunity.”
Josh Newbury, MP for Cannock Chase said: "The £20 million Pride in Place funding is a fantastic opportunity for West Chadsmoor, Broomhill and the Bevan Lee estate. The Neighbourhood Board and its Chair will lead efforts to make sure it achieves the positive changes in this tight-knit community that local people want to see. That's why it is so important that people who live or work locally come forward.
"The Government has been clear that unlike typical funding pots, Pride in Place is led by the community, for the community, so I encourage anyone who is passionate about Chadsmoor and wants to help shape the area's future to apply."
