A free community event will take place on Monday 20 July, from 1pm–3pm in Cannock Park, to mark the official launch of the new Cannock Park Heritage Trail — a key milestone in the ongoing redevelopment works to enhance the park’s facilities, heritage features and visitor experience.

As part of the project, 10 new interpretation panels have been installed across Cannock Park and Cannock Park Golf Course, helping visitors explore the park’s history, nature and stories in an engaging and accessible way. These panels form part of three new interactive trails:

•    Tree Trail — a nature‑focused route featuring 10 QR codes that help visitors learn about the trees that shape Cannock Park.

•    Hear Our Heritage — an audio‑led trail sharing short stories about the park’s history and the people who helped shape it.

•    Cannock Park Tales Trail — a creative trail featuring animations and poetry co‑created with local children, artists and community groups.

All three trails can also be completed challenges through the Cannock Chase Can app, allowing families to collect QR codes, unlock digital content and earn rewards as part of the district‑wide health and wellbeing programme.

The creative content for the Cannock Park Tales Trail — including animations, poetry and character designs — has been produced by local artists Jennie Moore and Pep the Poet, working closely with students from Hednesford Valley High, Chaselea Alternative Provision Academy, St Luke’s Primary School and Sherbrook Primary School. Their contributions have helped bring the park’s stories to life in a vibrant, imaginative and community‑led way.

The launch event will include a range of free activities for children and families, with creative sessions delivered by Pep the Poet and Jennie. There will also be sporting activities and games.

Councillor John Parkes, Portfolio Leader for Operational Services and Parks, said: “Cannock Park is one of our most valued green spaces, and these new trails and interpretation panels bring its heritage and natural environment to life in a fresh and exciting way. The involvement of local artists and schoolchildren has made this project truly special. The Heritage Trail launch event is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, explore the park and enjoy a fun afternoon of activities”.

Residents are encouraged to come along, take part in the activities and discover the new trails.
