Cannock Chase Council is delighted to welcome two new Carpentry Apprentices, Ollie Kite and Conor Edwards, following an exceptionally successful recruitment campaign that attracted a high level of interest from aspiring tradespeople across the local area.
The apprenticeship opportunity generated a significant number of applications, with candidates demonstrating an impressive range of skills, enthusiasm and potential. The high calibre of applicants made the selection process both competitive and challenging.
Following a thorough recruitment process, Ollie and Conor were selected as the successful candidates, each bringing their own unique strengths and qualities to the role.
Conor Edwards stood out during the interview process thanks to his calm, mature approach and clear commitment to building a long-term career within the social housing sector. As a mature apprentice, he brings valuable life experience, professionalism and a level-headed attitude that will support his development and make him a valuable member of the team.
For Ollie Kite, securing the apprenticeship marks the next step in a journey that began during a work experience placement with the organisation while he was attending a local school. During his placement, Ollie demonstrated a genuine passion for carpentry and a strong interest in supporting customers and communities through the organisation’s work.
Inspired by the experience, Ollie has worked hard to develop his skills and pursue his ambition of joining the team permanently. His appointment is a testament to his determination, commitment and enthusiasm for the trade.
Councillor Melissa Cecil, Portfolio Leader for Housing and Corporate Assets said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ollie and Conor to the team. The response to our apprenticeship opportunity was fantastic and the quality of candidates was incredibly high. Both apprentices impressed us throughout the recruitment process and have shown great potential to develop into skilled tradespeople.
“Investing in apprenticeships is an important part of our commitment to developing local talent, creating opportunities within our communities and ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality repairs and maintenance services for our customers. By supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople, we are investing in the future of our workforce, as well as the homes and communities we serve.”
As a social housing provider, the organisation remains committed to creating pathways into employment, supporting skills development and helping local people build rewarding careers. Apprenticeships play a vital role in this ambition, providing hands-on experience and valuable training while contributing to the delivery of essential services for customers.
Ollie and Conor will now begin their apprenticeships, working alongside experienced colleagues and developing the practical skills and knowledge needed to build successful careers within the housing sector.
