Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet agreed at their meeting last night to the next steps in the Local Plan Review.
A public consultation on the Cannock Chase Local Plan Review Issues and Options took place between 13 May and 8 July 2019 and asked local people to get involved with future development decisions and have their say in the Local Plan.
The report presented to Cabinet summarises the feedback received from the public and statutory organisations during the consultation.
A new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was launched in 2018 and introduced a number of changes to the planning system.
The Local Plan Part 2 was being prepared but in view of the changes it was necessary to cease the plan and commence a full review of the Local Plan Part 1.
The Local Plan covers at least a fifteen year period and determines what sort of development is needed for the future, for example; homes, businesses and shops, how much development is needed and where it should go. It also sets a clear policy for protecting and improving the local environment and delivering local infrastructure.
Councillor Tony Johnson, Portfolio Leader for Economic Development and Planning said “There has been a major shake-up of the planning system on a national level. We have had to start work on a new local plan to reflect this and to deal with the future needs of the District.
“I would like to thank everyone that has had their say in the consultation earlier this year, this will help us to shape the Local Plan. The next stage of the plan will be the Preferred Option stage and this will be out for consultation summer next year where we will start providing more detail of what the plan will eventually look like.”
In addition to this Cabinet agreed to review the composition of the Local Plan Working Group to reflect the Council’s current political balance.
