Cannock Chase Council top of table for Green Flag Awards

Cannock Chase Council has become the top performing District Council in Staffordshire and the West Midlands after scooping a fifth Green Flag award.

The latest award was for Stile Cop Cemetery which has recently undergone improvements and extension works.  As well as retaining Green Flags at Cannock Park, Ravenhill Park, Castle Ring (plus Green Heritage Award) and Elmore Park.

Cllr George Adamson, Leader of the Council said “It is particularly pleasing to receive national recognition that these five sites are amongst the best in the county.  It is just reward for all of the hard work of our staff, alongside our partner organisations and friends groups.”

Cllr Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Sport said “These awards are annual and set the very high standards of maintenance along with conservation of landscape and heritage.  The Council acknowledges the benefit of quality green spaces on the mental and physical wellbeing of all its residents.”

Cannock Chase Council manages more than 1,000 hectares of parks and green spaces across the District, which is the size of about 1,600 adult football pitches.

The Green Flag Award is applied for annually and each site is judged by two Green Flag judges. As part of the judging exercise feedback is provided on the sites to the Council. The Council then acts on the main recommendations of the feedback as a way of continuously improving the sites for the benefit of all users.
