Cannock Markets earmarked for improvements

Indoor Market

Cannock Market Hall is set to open 4 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) from 1 April 2017, with a number of improvements and a new entrance.

This follows a decision made by Cannock Chase Council on 8 February, after a public consultation on the financial recovery plan which will make £1.6M of savings and protect Council services for residents in the District.

The move to 4 days a week comes after advice from independent consultants, who in their analysis felt that a potential area for development in the town centre was to reinforce the market as a key anchor and to trade more days.

There will be a number of improvements to the market hall, including making the old Hallmark shop a new entrance, four new market stalls will be constructed inside and the main market office will be moved to a better location; work is set to commence this week.

Councillor Diane Todd, Portfolio Leader for Town Centre Regeneration said “I am delighted that improvements are taking place, the planned move of the main entrance to the old Hallmark shop will make the indoor market more prominent to people visiting the town centre.”

“The consultants have recommended that we increase the market days in Cannock, we have taken this advice on board and these changes will be in place from 1 April.”

“We are also looking for new market traders for both Cannock and Rugeley markets, if you are interested in finding out more information please contact our markets team on 01543 464558 or email market@cannockchasedc.gov.uk. Help us to make our District markets the best that they can be.”
