Cannock Park has a new leafy resident – and it needs a name!
A stunning topiary dinosaur has taken root in Cannock Park, bringing a touch of prehistoric fun to the popular green space. Planted with support from the Trees for Climate programme, this unique feature is already turning heads and is set to become a local landmark.
Now, Cannock Chase Council is calling on local children and families to help officially name the dinosaur by entering the ‘Name the Dinosaur’ competition.
Entries should be emailed to parksandopenspaces@cannockchasedc.gov.uk by no later than Friday 19 July. The winning name will be revealed at the grand opening of the new play area at Cannock Park this August, with the lucky winner receiving a special prize – presented by the Chairman of the Council.
Councillor Lisa Wilson, Parks, Culture, and Heritage Portfolio Leader for Cannock Chase Council, said: “We’re really excited to bring something so different and fun to Cannock Park. We know Cannock Park has a history of topiary, and this quirky new addition is a great way to spark interest in the park for children, young people and families.”
The dinosaur has been made possible thanks to Trees for Climate funding and partnership working with the Forest of Mercia, one of England’s Community Forests.
Dave Knowles, Co-Director at the Forest of Mercia said: “We think it’s fantastic that this topiary dinosaur will help attract even more people of all ages to appreciate trees and green spaces like Cannock Park. It's a great example of how creativity and nature can come together to inspire and engage communities.”
Get your thinking caps on and send in your most imaginative name – you could go down in Cannock Park history!
