Consultation on modifications to Local Plan

Local plan consultation

Published: Thursday, 16th October 2025

The Council are consulting on modifications made to the Cannock Chase Local Plan 2018-2040, by the independent Planning Inspector, following hearings which took place this summer.

The Cannock Chase Local Plan 2018-2040 will provide local planning policies, identify sites and help guide development for the next 15 years.

The Inspector appointed to examine the Local Plan has recommended modifications to the plan which the council submitted in autumn 2024.

These modifications are necessary to address issues of soundness and legal compliance. This means that the Local Plan requires changes to the wording of some policies in order for the Council to be able to formally adopt and use the plan.

The consultation will take place from Monday 20 October until 5pm on Monday 1 December and we are seeking your views.  All comments received will be sent to the independent Inspector for consideration.

Councillor Maureen Freeman, Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets said:  This consultation is quite niche, as members of the public can only comment on the modifications made by the Inspector, not other aspects of the Local Plan.

“After the consultation the Inspector will prepare a report which will recommend whether the Council are able to adopt the Plan.”

To comment on the proposed modifications to the plan, please use the forms provided which are available from www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/planningpolicy or from the Civic Centre.

The forms need to be completed and returned by email to planningpolicy@cannockchasedc.gov.uk or paper copies can be sent to Planning Policy, Civic Centre, PO Box 28, Beecroft Road, Cannock, Staffordshire WS11 1BG. Please direct any queries to 01543 462621 and ask for Planning Policy.
