Cannock Chase Council has worked with EDS Couriers to find larger premises to enable the company to stay in the District.

EDS Couriers who has premises in Bridgtown, which they were outgrowing fast, contacted the Council to help them find bigger premises.

The Council were aware that TNT were vacating their site in Wimblebury, which was suitable for EDS and would give them further growth potential.

Councillor Gordon Alcott, Portfolio Leader for Economic Development said “We were keen that an established employer stayed in the District, especially one that was going from strength to strength, expanding and employing more people.

Our officers worked with the Managing Director of EDS and EDS negotiated with TNT, the former owners of the Wimblebury site.

This move not only protects the existing workforce, but it also means that the company has room to grow and expand in their new premises.

Discussions are also taking place to move a company into their old premises at Fairway and bring even more jobs to the District.”

Andy Evans, Managing Director at EDS Couriers said “I moved my business from Walsall to Cannock in 2003 and never looked back, we moved to larger premises in Bridgtown in 2009 and in early 2015 realised we needed to move again.

I contacted the Council because it looked as if I was going to move outside the area, I am extremely grateful to be able to stay in the Cannock area. 95% of our 105 work force live within 4 miles of Cannock.

We are a local company in every sense of the word.”

EDS Couriers started in the early 1980’s in Walsall.  They moved to Progress Drive in Bridgtown in 2003 and to bigger premises at Fairway, Bridgtown in 2009.

EDS Couriers currently employs 106 people and have created 20 new jobs in the last 6 months.  The Wimblebury site sits on 2.5 acres, twice the size of the Bridgtown site.  The company handles over 7,000 items a day and growing at 30% compared with last year.
