Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have agreed to adopt the refreshed Economic Prosperity Strategy, which was presented at their meeting last night.

The Council published its Economic Prosperity Strategy for 2020-2030 in January 2020.  However, due to economic changes, and the fact that the Council has refreshed its Corporate Plan, it was felt necessary to update the Economic Prosperity Strategy.

The refreshed strategy now runs from 2022 to 2032, and the refreshed vision is consistent with the new Corporate Plan which states, the Council aims to reinvigorate our economy and create a District that thrives.

There are several projects that are included in the strategy which are designed to improve the prosperity of residents, increase economic growth and productivity, and also support the Councils aim of carbon neutrality.

Councillor Mike Sutherland, Portfolio Leader for District and High Street Development said “The District’s economy has recovered well after the Covid-19 pandemic and has seen recent significant investment such as, the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, Rugeley Power Station Development, investment into Cannock College and £20m Levelling Up Fund.   The recent Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games mountain biking event raised the profile of Cannock Chase and will hopefully improve tourism in the area moving forward.

“However, we still face a number of challenges with the current economic climate.  This will create extra pressure for our local residents and businesses.  The ongoing conflict in Ukraine will create uncertainty for the UK economy and will exacerbate the current cost-of-living crisis, with energy bills and inflation soaring.

“The strategy has taken into account the economic situation to ensure that it is up to date and it will be regularly reviewed to ensure that it reflects the current economy.”
