Victims of antisocial behaviour can get extra help and support as part of the Victim Support service that is being delivered across Cannock Chase District.

Cannock Chase Council has teamed up with Staffordshire Victim Support to help witnesses and victims of antisocial behaviour whether or not they wish to report the issue to the authorities.

Antisocial behaviour covers a range of unacceptable activity which may cause alarm and distress to an individual, to their community or to their environment. It also includes fear of crime or concern for public safety, public disorder or public nuisance.

Victim Support is a national charity offering free, confidential support to people affected by antisocial behaviour in Cannock Chase District. The service provides personal support from the Antisocial Behaviour Victim and Witness Champion and specially trained volunteers. They will also provide information from other organisations and specialists and support with mediation.

Councillor Carl Bennett, Leader of Crime and Partnerships said, “Cannock Chase Council is committed to working with residents and partners to tackle antisocial behaviour.

“The evidence of victims and witnesses is essential in dealing with antisocial behaviour. This service will provide extra support and will ensure that early assessments are made. We are delighted to be working with Victim Support in delivering this service across Cannock Chase District. ”

Heleen Witte, Antisocial Behaviour Victims and Witnesses Champion said,

“Victim Support is very pleased to be working in partnership with Cannock Chase Council to support victims and witnesses of antisocial behaviour better.

“We look forward to voicing victims’ needs and ensure that they receive an effective and high quality service. Sometimes people just want someone to talk to, someone who listens and takes the antisocial behaviour seriously. We will explain the process and help manage expectations.

“Victim Support has seen over the last seven years in other areas in Staffordshire that with such additional support, victims and witnesses will feel more confident and are more likely to report antisocial behaviour, which is not an easy thing to do.

“If you are experiencing problems with antisocial behaviour and are unsure whether to start reporting, contact your local Victim and Witness Champion. You should not suffer in silence - don`t let antisocial behaviour ruin your life”.
