Cannock Chase Council has let its first new Council houses for 25 years following the redevelopment scheme at the Moss Road Estate in Chadsmoor, Cannock.

The first properties in Patterdale Road and Kingsway were completed in November 2015, providing the Council with its first new housing in the District for 25 years.  An opening event was held by the Council and development partner Keepmoat to mark the occasion.

Council members, senior officers and Keepmoat representatives took a tour of the site, visited the show home property and met with one of the first new Council tenants at the scheme.

One of the first Council tenants of the new properties met with Councillors and expressed their delight at moving into the new build properties on the estate. Miss Tunley said “I’m so pleased with my new house, it is very warm and cosy, and quite spacious too”.

The development, a mixed tenure scheme of 65 Council houses and 76 open market properties sold by developer Keepmoat Homes, provides the first new Council houses in Cannock for 25 years.  The scheme will provide 2, 3 and 4 bed houses and is due to be completed in spring 2018.

These homes are part of the Council’s programme to build 129 additional homes in the District over the next 3 years.

Councillor Frank Allen, Housing Portfolio Leader said “We are delighted to be delivering the first new Council housing in a quarter of a century and to be redeveloping this estate, providing high quality family housing for the residents of the area.”

Development partner, Keepmoat Homes are building all the homes on the site. Keepmoat (http://www.keepmoatcorporate.com/) have recently been awarded an ‘excellent’ rating in the Considerate Constructors Scheme for their work on the site. Keepmoat have developed a good working relationship with the local community, and have tried to minimise disruption for local resident by maintaining the site and surrounding roads and footpaths to a high standard.

Paul Degg, Keepmoat’s Regional Managing Director commented “Working in partnership with Cannock Chase Council, we are delighted to offer affordable new homes to local people as part of the Moss Road regeneration scheme”.

The “Briars Walk” sales office is now open on Kingsway, with a show home also available for would-be buyers to have a look around. Keepmoat are offering all of the 76 open market properties for sale with the Government’s Help to Buy initiative, allowing buyers to purchase with only a 5% deposit.
