Go-ahead given for Local Plan review

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet and Council Members have agreed to a Local Plan review. 

This is following the government announcement that there will be major changes to the way in which local plans are produced, including the need for councils to review their plans every five years to see which policies may need updating. The Council adopted Local Plan Part 1 in 2014, meaning that very shortly  some policies may need an update. Part 1 set the strategy for the area and was due to be followed by a Part 2 document which would set out which sites were to be allocated for different types of development in the area. However, given that a more radical review is now needed, the Council has decided that it would be a better use of resources to re-look at the Local Plan as a whole.

Last year we consulted on the first stage of Local Plan Part 2 (issues and options) and received an excellent response.  People can be assured that we will use all of the feedback in helping to shape the new plan.

Councillor Gordon Alcott, Portfolio Leader for Economic Development and Planning said “I would like to thank everyone that sent in their comments following the consultation last year.  We will be starting  the production of a new Local Plan, which will utilise the work to be carried out to date on Local Plan Parts 1 and 2 and incorporate any areas which need reviewing and updating.

Once the relevant documents have been drafted we will be running a series of consultation events, taking into account the feedback we received last time and using the information we previously received. We aim to run these during the summer and will write to everyone who has expressed an interest to inform them of the arrangements.  We have not made any decisions about which sites should be allocated for development and there is plenty of chance to get involved and contribute to the debate as we start work on the new plan.”

Until the Local Plan is replaced, the adopted Local Plan Part 1 will still continue to set planning policy for the District.

We will write to everyone who has registered on the Planning Policy consultation database to explain the next steps and how they can continue to participate.
