The next phase of tree removal in Hednesford Park will commence later this month, with some of the over mature popular and sycamore trees in Tree Avenue being removed.
This is essential management and part of the ongoing works to Hednesford Park following a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant which was received in 2012 for £2.2M.
Some of the trees removed from Tree Avenue will be pollarded and turned into living sculptures. A consultation with local schools will determine the type of images that the wood carver will create. The chippings from the left over trees will be re-used in the park.
Councillor Christine Mitchell Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport said “Some of the trees in the avenue were planted to help the main avenue trees to become established, with a view to them being removed a long time ago. Unfortunately this never happened and the trees are now well past their best.
The original design of the park was to have a complete tree avenue around the park including the Victoria Street side and I am delighted that we have now completed that original design as part of the HLF Project.
This work is simply the next phase of good tree avenue management and the public will soon be able to see the artist at work creating some beautiful carvings.”
