Life-saving bleed kits installed across the district

Bleed kits

Lifesaving bleed kits have been installed in six locations across the district thanks to funding from the Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime.

The new cabinets, which are stocked with essential bleed control equipment, can now be found at Cannock, Pye Green, Hednesford and Norton Canes, and supplement existing bleed control provision across the district.

These kits are publicly accessible and designed to help save lives by enabling quick action in emergency situations where an individual is experiencing severe blood loss, whether from violent incidents, traffic accidents, or other major injuries. Should you need to access one, please dial 999 and you will be advised of the code to open.

Councillor David Williams, Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing said: “Bleed kits aim to empower individuals across the community to act swiftly and effectively in life-threatening situations, where severe blood loss occurs.  They go beyond first aid kits by offering specialist equipment to help stem bleeding and reduce the risk of infection.

“We hope the installation of these kits across the district will save lives.  I would like to that those organisations/businesses who have allowed us to install the kits on their property.”

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime and Chair of the Staffordshire Violence Reduction Alliance, Ben Adams, said: “When someone is seriously injured, getting treatment to stop any bleeding as quickly as possible is vital.

“Here in Staffordshire, we take a coordinated partnership approach to reducing harm through our Violence Reduction Alliance. Introducing potentially life-saving measures such as these bleed kits helps to reduce the impact violence can have on communities.

“I am determined to do everything I can to keep our communities in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent safe, which is why I was happy to provide funding for these kits using the Serious Violence Duty fund.”
