Laser Process experts in precision laser cutting and specialists in the manufacture of complex fabricated assemblies and metal components based in Cannock have strengthened their position as an industry leader following a £30,000 grant from the West Midlands SME Grant Programme.

The grant totalling £30K, received in January this year has enabled Laser Process to invest in new machinery, allowing them to bring in additional work in-house and create three new jobs.

The West Midlands SME Grant Programme supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with grants ranging from £1,000 to £7,500, and up to £100,000 for growth projects for established businesses. Eligible projects must demonstrate the potential to create new jobs and can receive grants for up to 50% of their total project costs, with applicants required to match the funds they receive. Approved projects are to be completed within a three-month period.

The West Midlands Grant Programme is funded by the Council’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

The UKSPF was established by the UK Government to create pride by investing in local communities and supporting local businesses.

Councillor Maureen Freeman, Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets said: “The West Midlands SME Grant Programme has been a catalyst for local businesses, empowering small and medium enterprises across our district to grow.  Don’t assume you won’t be eligible for this grant.  I would encourage all small and medium businesses across Cannock Chase to take full advantage of this before the programme ends in March 2025.”

Adrian Edwards Group Special Projects Manager at Sirius A Corporation who has been working closely with Laser Process said: “Currently we have been having computer numerically controlled (CNC) turned parts manufactured at external suppliers, with the assistance of the grant we have been awarded, this has enabled us to now bring this process in house by the purchasing of a CNC Lathe.  Which brings us advantages, in-house operations can streamline production timelines, reducing lead times and allowing for quicker responses to market demands, which allows for easier adaptation to changes in design or specifications, facilitating more customized products.  This in turn reduces reliance on external suppliers and mitigates risks associated with supply chain disruptions, such as delays or shortages, with employee engagement we can foster a sense of ownership and pride among employees, potentially leading to increased motivation and productivity.”
