Cannock Chase Council is working in conjunction with Councils in Staffordshire and local fleet operators in a new scheme to improve air quality on local roads.
The ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme was launched by the consortium of eight Councils at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton upon Trent last month.
The free scheme helps fleet operators improve their efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and emissions and make cost savings.
The launch event saw the first fleet operators who signed up to the Staffordshire and Stoke Scheme presented with certificates recognising their star ratings.
The scheme experts assess each fleet, award a star rating based on the current performance and produce a ‘roadmap’ of recommendations which will help operators to reduce vehicle emissions whilst also reducing operating costs.
Councillor Alan Dudson, Environment Portfolio Leader said “The ECO Stars scheme encourages and supports operators of HGVs, vans, buses and coaches to run their fleets more efficiently.
Membership is free to all fleet operators, irrespective of their size, so I would encourage all fleet companies in the District to find out more information about the scheme and how it can make a difference to the local environment whilst reducing operating costs.”
