Residents across Cannock Chase have been trained to use a bleed kit in an emergency, thanks to funding from the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC).

A total of 125 members of the public have taken part in six sessions, which focused on equipping people with the knowledge and confidence to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a catastrophic bleed.

The training has been delivered in partnership with Owen’s World, a charity established after 22-year-old Owen from Swindon was tragically fatally stabbed in 2022. NHS-trained paramedic Ashley-Jordon Parker-Trigg has been leading the educational sessions, teaching participants how to correctly and safely use a bleed kit to help save lives while waiting for emergency services.

The Council has previously installed six additional bleed kit cabinets in the district earlier this year, again thanks to funding from the OPFCC.

Councillor David Williams, Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing said: “Ensuring our community is equipped with the knowledge and tools to save lives is incredibly important. This training empowers residents to act with confidence in the most critical moments, and we are proud to support initiatives that make Cannock Chase safer for everyone.”

Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Dave Evans said: “Unfortunately, you never know when you might come across someone with a serious bleed.
“It’s great that the Commissioner’s Community Safety Fund is being used to help educate people for free on how to use the kits in the case of an emergency.”
