Businesses in Cannock Chase that remain closed due to the pandemic will receive a new grant payment, following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 22 February.

The Council is allocating over £2m, to businesses in the District that remain closed due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Businesses that have previously received the ‘Local Restrictions Support Grant’ and the ‘Council’s Additional Restrictions Grant’ will automatically get the payment by 5 March, at the latest. The new grants will cover the period from 16 February until the end of March.

During the Covid-19 pandemic the Council has distributed more than £30m to businesses within the District that have been restricted or have had to close.

Eligible businesses which include pubs, restaurants, nightclubs and leisure centres, as well as non-essential retail outlets which remain shut, will receive grants between £2,096 and £4,714 dependent on the rateable value of the property.

Councillor Tony Johnson, Portfolio Leader for Economic Regeneration said “We are delighted to receive more funding from the Government for businesses in the District.  The pandemic has hit local businesses hard.  This next wave of grants will hopefully help them until they are able to re-open.

“This new grant will be paid automatically, so there is no need to re-apply and it will be in the bank no later than 5 March.”
