Cannock Chase Council is calling all park users – past and present, to help create a community book that depicts the history of Hednesford Park and War Memorial.
As part of a successful Heritage Lottery funded project, the Council is undertaking restoration and development works to Hednesford Park and War Memorial which started in 2013.
Hednesford Park has been dramatically improved to the extent that it is now one of the best parks in Staffordshire. As part of these ongoing works, the Council has teamed up with Inspiring healthy lifestyles to produce a lasting legacy which will celebrate the parks heritage for future generations.
`From Pools to Play!` will be a book that captures the history of the park and War Memorial in a fun and interactive way which families will enjoy.
A `Hidden Gems` memory session will be held on Friday 27 January 2017 between 11am and 1pm at the Museum of Cannock Chase for members of this group. This event will provide an opportunity for members to come along and share their stories and photographs which may be included in the published book.
If you would like to become a member of the ‘Hidden Gems’ group contact The Museum of Cannock Chase on 01543 877666.
Memories can also be shared using the online form which is accessible from the Council`s website.
Lisa Shephard, Creative Development Manager for Inspiring healthy lifestyles, said: “This is a brilliant creative project which will bring our community together to celebrate our local heritage”.
Councillor Christine Mitchell, Leader of Culture and Sport said, “This is a fantastic way of documenting the history of the park and War Memorial for future generations. This won`t be your typical history book, instead it will be full of facts and anecdotal memories from those who have used the park and presented in a fun and enjoyable way.
“If you or your family members have any stories about Hednesford Park and the War Memorial, then please let us have them as we would like to feature as many local memories in the published book”.
The book `From Pools to Play!` will be available to purchase in 2018, subject to publishing schedules.
