Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has approved the spending of £200,000 on a car park refurbishment and improvement scheme across the District.
Following inspections carried out in 2017/18, an estimated programme of planned works has been drawn up over the next five years (2018-23) and 10 years (2024-28) to bring the 35 council owned pay and display car parks to a satisfactory standard with regards to their operation, aesthetic condition, and health and safety requirements.
There are eight priority car parks which are considered as the most urgent, which will be completed during the first year. These are: Danilo Road in Cannock, Market Street in Rugeley, Service Area 6 in Rugeley, Service Area 9 in Rugeley, 5’s Bradbury Lane in Hednesford, and Girton Road in Cannock.
Pay and display signage will also be reviewed in all pay and display car parks in Rugeley and Cannock.
Councillor John Preece, Portfolio Leader for Environment said: “All of our car parks are inspected regularly and during this process it has been noted that a number of them require investment to bring them up to a satisfactory standard.
“I am pleased that Cabinet have approved the spend on the car parks across the District.”
Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport, speaking about 5’s Bradbury Lane, said: “I am pleased that this report has been approved at Cabinet. Since the 5’s Sports Pavilion opened in March 2017 it has proved to be extremely successful but this has meant that parking has been a problem.
“This programme includes an extension to the car park, which was agreed by Council back in April. This is great news for the residents and the patrons of the facility.”
Work will start on the priority car parks in the New Year.
