Cannock Chase Council is inviting residents to have their say on proposals for a new Dog Control Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), aimed at helping to keep parks, streets, and open spaces safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.
The proposed PSPO sets out measures designed to promote responsible dog ownership and protect shared public areas. These include:
• To remove faeces when dogs foul
• To carry a bag or other suitable receptacle for removing dog faeces and to show these when requested to by a Council or Police officer
• To exclude dogs from children’s play areas, tennis courts and multi-use games areas
• To keep dogs on leads when in or near a road and to put dogs on a lead when directed to by a Council or Police officer
• To be responsible for no more than six dogs at a time
The Council is encouraging feedback from all residents—whether they are dog owners or regular users of local parks and public spaces—to help shape the final proposals.
Councillor Richard Craddock, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services and Sustainability said: “Our public spaces are vital to the wellbeing of our communities, and it’s important they remain welcoming, clean, and safe for everyone to enjoy. These proposed measures are about striking the right balance between supporting responsible dog ownership and protecting shared areas. I would strongly encourage residents to take part in the consultation and help us shape a policy that reflects the needs of our district.”
