Cannock Chase Council has received notification that the Secretary of State has decided not to ‘call-in’ the planning application for the Mill Green Designer Outlet Village and given the green light for the Council to proceed with approval in the New Year, subject to the completion of various agreements.
Leader of the Council George Adamson said “I am delighted that the Secretary of State has decided to support the local decision to grant consent for the Mill Green Designer Outlet Village. This is the best news that this District has received for many years and I look forward to the opening of the first phase during 2018.”
Councillor Gordon Alcott, Portfolio Leader for Economic Development and Planning said “It is great news that this has been agreed at national level and can now proceed. Mill Green Designer Outlet Village will attract 3 million new visitors to Cannock Chase and Staffordshire when it is open, which will be a huge boost for the District.”
Tony McGovern, Managing Director said “I am pleased that the Secretary of State has agreed that this proposal can now go forward. It will deliver a huge number of construction and retail jobs and bring significant improvements to the local transport network. I would like to thank everybody who has supported this proposal to date.”
'The planning application was submitted in February this year by development partners U+I (formerly Development Securities) and Rioja Developments.
The Mill Green proposal for a specialist designer outlet village consists of 130 designer outlet retail units, restaurants, a play area and a visitor centre and at 23,758 sq m will be the biggest development of its kind in the West Midlands region.
The first phase of the development could be open during 2018.
