Cannock Chase Council is seeking the relatives of 120 First World War heroes, whose names are engraved on the war memorial in Hednesford, in order to name roads on a new housing estate in their honour.

Planning permission has been granted for a housing development on land off Pye Green Road in Hednesford.

It has been requested by the Leader of the Council George Adamson, that the roads on the new housing development are named in memory of local war heroes from the First World War.

There are 120 names on Hednesford War Memorial (Roll of Honour) however some of the surnames are duplicated.

The Council is seeking permission from surviving relatives to enable them to use the surnames to name the roads in the new housing development.

Cllr George Adamson, Leader of the Council said “It would be a fitting tribute to those local heroes who lost their lives in the First World War to be honoured.

We want to give surviving relatives the opportunity to let us know if they don’t want the name to be used in this development.  So if you are a descendant of one of the men listed on Hednesford War Memorial’s Roll of Honour or know someone who is then please give one of our officers a call.

There are more names on the roll of honour there are roads in this development, so allocation will be on a first come first served basis.”

If you are a descendant of one of the men listed on Hednesford War Memorial’s roll of honour then please contact Tracie Clarke at Cannock Chase Council on 01543 462621 or email tracieclarke@cannockchasedc.gov.uk by 5pm on Friday 4th December.
