Cannock Chase Council is consulting residents on the adopted Urban Forestry Strategy for 2018-2023.

The management of trees and woodland is governed by legal responsibilities and influenced by national, regional and Council policy. The Urban Forestry Strategy was adopted in 2003 to ensure that the Council’s legal responsibilities in relation to trees and woodlands in Cannock Chase are fulfilled.

This was then updated in 2008 and 2013 to take forward the initial ideas and processes to develop these polices and priorities to ensure trees and woodland continue to contribute to the benefit of those who live, work and visit the district.

This revised strategy will help to provide the aims, objectives and policies, which will reaffirm Cannock Chase Council’s commitment and continued strategic direction for the protection, planting and maintenance of the trees and woodland within the district.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport said “The Strategy outlines the Councils' legal commitments and policy obligations as set by central government.  The aim is to sustainably maintain, improve and expand the quality of the existing tree and woodland cover. The Council will act to conserve and enhance the quality, role and diversity of trees and woodland in the district by the establishment of regular tree inspection and maintenance. We aim to be consistent to all residents in the district and will only carry out works when there is a public safety concern.”

The consultation runs until Friday 27 July.  To take part in the survey please follow the link http://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=152899026789 or email your comments to policy@cannockchasedc.gov.uk
