The Council and developers have worked with a family in Rugeley to relocate a memorial tree following planning approval for housing.
A cherry tree was planted at the former Aelfgar School site in Rugeley for Stacey Wilshaw, who attended Lichfield Music Centre there and tragically passed away in 2000.
Aelfgar School was closed in August 2011 and the land was purchased by Cannock Chase Council for development.

The Council's ‘Armed Forces Champion’ has stepped in after concerns that a lack of volunteers could hit this year’s Poppy Appeal in Cannock Chase.
Former Royal Marine, Councillor David Williams, has organised an event next week at the council’s Civic Centre for people and groups wanting to get involved in helping the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) annual appeal.
Branches of the RBL and regimental associations are expected to be represented - with local community groups, organisations and businesses also invited to the event which gets underway at 6pm on Thursday 5 September.

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have agreed to recommend to full Council that it spends £141,770 on improvements to the play area at Flaxley Road in Rugeley.
Nearly £142k was approved to be included into the general fund capital programme at the Cabinet meeting last night.

Cannock Chase Council is set to take significant steps to tackle the rising demand for housing repairs across the district.
In April there was a notable surge in repair requests, which has added to the backlog.
Council’s Cabinet have agreed to use £231,000 from the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) to procure an external contractor to clear the backlog and ensure that a reduction of outstanding repairs was seen over the next six months.

Cannock Chase Council is calling on residents of the Pear Tree Estate in Rugeley, to join forces and become part of an exciting initiative, that will support improvements to Flaxley Road Play Area in Rugeley.
The Council are looking for volunteers who are local and are passionate about the area and protecting the park, to set up a Friends of Flaxley Park group.

Councillor John Preece has been appointed as Deputy Leader for Cannock Chase Council.
This follows the resignation of Councillor Josh Newbury as Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member. As he was elected as Member of Parliament for the Cannock Chase Constituency at the General Election earlier this month.
Councillor Maureen Freeman has taken the position of Portfolio Leader for Regeneration and High Streets on the Council’s Cabinet. These changes were reported to the Council at its meeting on Wednesday 24 July 2024.
