Residents across Cannock Chase District have recycled more than 95 tonnes of food waste in the first week of the new food waste collection service.

The service launched last Monday (27 April) and forms part of a national government initiative aimed at increasing the amount of food waste recycled by households across the country.

Residents across Cannock Chase will begin receiving their weekly food waste collections from next week (week commencing 27 April 2026), as part of a new government initiative to increase food waste recycling.

Households should by now have already received two new food waste containers: a 23-litre external kerbside caddy, containing a small seven-litre kitchen caddy for use indoors, and a roll of liners.  These were delivered with full instructions explaining how the new service will work.

Cannock Chase Council has officially adopted the Cannock Chase Local Plan 2018–2040, following approval at Full Council on Monday 23 March.

This marks the completion of a major long term project that has shaped the district’s planning framework for years to come.

The adoption follows seven years of work involving detailed evidence gathering, multiple rounds of public engagement and a thorough independent examination.

As the programme draws to a close, Cannock Chase Council is highlighting the significant impact of UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) investment, which has helped more than 350 residents access the benefits and financial support they are entitled to.

Cannock Chase Council is celebrating the success of the Cannock Chase Discovery Programme, delivered by AKG and funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

The programme has focused on supporting residents who are unemployed or in low paid work, particularly those facing additional barriers such as poor health, low confidence, limited qualifications, or digital exclusion. Through personalised employment, skills, and wellbeing support, the programme has helped people of all ages build confidence, gain new skills, and move closer to sustainable work.
