Work has started on phase one of the new cemetery for residents living in the Cannock Chase District.

The cemetery located on Hednesford Road in Norton Canes will provide local access to burial facilities for at least the next 25 years.

Phase one of the works will cost £1.4m and represents a major capital investment for the Council.  These works, which are expected to take up to the end of December 2020, have been split into four key elements:

A new campaign addressing extremism and radicalisation was launched in schools across Cannock Chase District in January and has been extremely successful in raising awareness of extremism and the wider Prevent agenda.

Council’s Cabinet has approved leisure concessions for another year, for members of the Armed Forces who live in Cannock Chase.

The scheme which has been running since 2012, is run by Inspiring healthy lifestyles on behalf of Cannock Chase Council

The scheme includes use of fitness suites, swimming pools and participation in various group activities and fitness classes at Chase and Rugeley Leisure Centres.

Cannock Chase District residents are being reminded that its outdoor `street` market in Cannock town centre is returning from Friday with risk assessments, social distancing and a new layout to manage queuing safely, all in place.

The market in Market Place usually extends to Market Hall Street but this part of the market will temporarily move to Market Place to allow for adequate social distancing along Market Hall Street.

Rugeley Neighbourhood Area was designated on 9 June 2020.

The designation of a Neighbourhood Area is the first step to enable the production of a Neighbourhood Plan.The Neighbourhood Plan will be produced by Rugeley Town Council, who applied for the Neighbourhood Area designation.

A Neighbourhood Plan can cover a wide range of issues relating to the future development of the area, for example social, environmental and economic issues, which can set out policies for determining future planning applications in the Rugeley area.

Cannock Chase Council is urging football fans to ‘show domestic abuse the red card’ during the football season which will be watched by many at home.

Research shows that incidents of domestic abuse rise sharply during major football tournaments by up to 25 per cent.

With the first football game kicking off this week, people will be watching the games from their homes due to the pandemic. This again could increase tensions within households, resulting in incidences of domestic abuse.

Cannock Chase Council has served a number of County Court Injunction Orders on individuals in relation to a Council property on Heather Road, Pye Green, Cannock.

The Council has served four Injunctions on individuals who occupy and visit a Council property at Heather Road, Pye Green.

The orders have been served on the tenant of the property, her mother, uncle and a male associate.

Social distancing signing and information to remind people to ‘Stay Alert’, subways where you keep left, the temporary suspension of parking bays, and the full return of the street cleansing service feature as part of measures to keep shoppers and retailers safe as non-essential retail is allowed to re-open from Monday (15 June).

Volunteering group the Friends of Cannock Stadium Park have created a beautiful memorial for residents who have sadly passed away due to COVID-19.

The Friends of Cannock Stadium Park are a group of volunteers who work with Cannock Chase Council to promote and support the regeneration of Cannock Stadium and its future.

President of the group Lynn Biggs came up with the idea of crocheting forget-me-nots after one of her friends passed away and she was unable to go to the funeral and pay her respects.
