Critical stage reached in Cannock town centre development

A critical stage has been reached in the development of Cannock town centre following the awarding of £20 million of Levelling Up Fund money by the Government nearly 12 months ago.

With considerable `behind the scenes` work taking place in recent months, Cannock Chase Council now needs to take its next steps, legally and formally with all and any affected parties, and begin a process of land acquisition around the town centre’s disused and unsightly former multi-storey car park and towards Church Street. 

Economic Prosperity Strategy refreshed

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have agreed to adopt the refreshed Economic Prosperity Strategy, which was presented at their meeting last night.

The Council published its Economic Prosperity Strategy for 2020-2030 in January 2020.  However, due to economic changes, and the fact that the Council has refreshed its Corporate Plan, it was felt necessary to update the Economic Prosperity Strategy.  

New funding available for local businesses affected by COVID-19

Local businesses that did not qualify for rate relief funded by the Government to help them get through the COVID-19 pandemic are being invited to apply for new rate relief support as part of a further allocation of money received by Cannock Chase Council from the Government.

The funding, available now, is from the Government’s COVID-19 Additional Relief Fund known as CARF.

Today (26 July) Cannock Chase Council is celebrating after receiving no less than six Green Flag Awards: for Cannock Park, Ravenhill Park, Elmore Park, Hednesford Park, Castle Ring Green Heritage Site, and Stile Cop Cemetery.

They are among 2,208 winners across the UK in this year’s Green Flag Awards. The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games come to Cannock Chase

There are just 13 days to go until the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games come to Cannock Chase Forest on Wednesday 3 August.



Around 2,500 ticketed spectators are expected to watch the mountain biking event, with even more predicted to be lining the trail for a glimpse of the event. The action, involving the women’s and men’s events, starts at 11.30am and finishes at 4pm.



If you have not been lucky enough to get a ticket, there are lots of ways you can watch the action on the day.


Views sought on the replacement of Dog Control Order

Cannock Chase Council is consulting on a replacement of its Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in relation to the control of dogs which has been in place since 2018. 

This follows a consultation exercise in 2021, where the Council resolved to extend the original 2018 Order for a further three years.

Staffordshire’s Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, Ben Adams, has made his first visit to a Community Safety Hub meeting in the county.

Accompanied by his deputy, Helen Fisher, he was invited to the Civic Centre at Cannock Chase Council to take part in the weekly meeting of the Chase Community Partnership Community Safety Hub. This brings together partner organisations to discuss ongoing community safety issues in the District.

A new campaign addressing women’s safety has launched across the District as part of Cannock Chase Council’s ongoing safeguarding work.

The new campaign named ’Get Home Safe’ aims to prompt women and girls to think about how they will get themselves home on a night out.

The Council’s Policy and Communications and Community Safety and Partnerships teams have been working together to develop a new campaign called ‘Get Home Safe’ which provides useful tools for women and young girls to get home safe after a night out.

Members of Cannock Chase Council have made appointments to key roles at their Annual Council Meeting held on 25 May at the Civic Centre in Cannock. They follow the recent District Council Elections held on 5 May. 

Entering her second year as Leader of the Council is Councillor Olivia Lyons. She was both re-elected as a councillor for Western Springs Ward in Rugeley and as Leader of the Conservative Group. The Group managed to increase its majority on the Council from eight seats to nine seats.
