Residents, businesses and organisations across Southern and Mid Staffordshire are being asked for their views to help shape the future of local government in the area. 

Leaders from six councils have been working together as part of plans for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). LGR is taking place across the country and will see unitary councils created that will cover everything from household waste collections and fixing roads, to street cleaning and looking after elderly and vulnerable people.

Cannock Chase Council is proud to announce the launch of its ‘Grants 4 Growth’ programme—a new funding initiative designed to support the growth and development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the district.

Part of the Council’s 2025–26 UK Shared Prosperity Fund programme, the Grants 4 Growth scheme offers eligible local businesses who have been trading from 12 months onwards the opportunity to apply for funding ranging from £1,000 to £10,000 to support business expansion, innovation, and resilience.

Six of the Best: Cannock Chase Parks Retain National Green Flag Awards

Cannock Chase Council is proud to announce that six parks and green spaces across the district have once again been recognised with the esteemed Green Flag Award for 2025, celebrating excellence in the management and maintenance of public green spaces.

The sites are one of 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The award-winning sites are Cannock Park, Ravenhill Park, Elmore Park, Hednesford Park, Stile Cop Cemetery, and Castle Ring—each having successfully retained their Green Flag status for another year.

Have your say on the future of Heath Hayes Park

Park users and members of the local community are being urged to share their views on the future of Heath Hayes Park, as part of a public consultation on proposed improvements to this much-valued green space.

A new masterplan has been developed to guide the long-term development of the park. Proposed enhancements include a fully inclusive play area for children and families, as well as improvements to access, facilities, and biodiversity.

A new interactive walking trail celebrating Bridgtown’s rich history has officially launched, bringing stories of the past to life with QR codes, local creativity, and community spirit.

The Bridgtown Tales Trail was officially launched this month, offering residents and visitors the chance to explore the village through a fun and engaging route. Along the trail, explorers can find 8 QR codes, each revealing fascinating stories, facts and insights into Bridgtown’s unique heritage.

Eco-Enthusiasts in Action: Schoolchildren put Councillors in the hot seat

The Council Chamber in Cannock was buzzing with curiosity and purpose this week as local primary schoolchildren stepped up to ask their elected Councillors tough questions about climate change.

Children from Heath Hayes Academy visited Cannock Chase Council on Monday 30 June as part of an educational initiative aimed at encouraging youth engagement in environmental issues and local democracy. The pupils, aged 9 and 10 had the opportunity to sit in the seats of local councillors and present their own questions about climate action, sustainability, and the future of the planet.
