Shared Accommodation Pilot Project in Cannock Chase

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet approved at its meeting last night to pilot a shared accommodation project in the District.

The project will see a small number of two or three bedroomed Council flats that are no longer required by families, offered for flat share accommodation.  The accommodation will be restricted to single people, under the age of 35, who have no dependants and who are willing to share.  A registered provider will be appointed, who will be responsible for managing the property and providing support to the tenants.

FITNESS experts at Rugeley Leisure Centre are pioneering a new healthy lifestyle programme to help ex-soldiers combat the debilitating effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Inspiring healthy lifestyles staff members Ben Boden and George Gaye have teamed up with Cannock-based charity Help A Squaddie to launch a pilot course aimed at getting former military personnel up and active. 

Council appoints contractor to develop sports strategy

Knight, Kavanagh and Page (KKP) have been appointed by Cannock Chase Council to develop an indoor and outdoor sports facility strategy for the District.

The purpose of the strategy is to provide clear direction based on the needs of Cannock Chase, to ensure that there are adequate indoor and outdoor sports facilities now and in the future. The strategy supports the Council’s mission for better health outcomes by enabling residents to become more active and healthier.

Council proposes work on new local plan for the District

This year, the government is bringing in major changes to the way in which local plans are produced, including the need for councils to review their plans every five years.

As a consequence, Cannock Chase Council is proposing to begin work on a new Local Plan for the District. Councils prepare local plans to set out how land in their area will be used in the future, whether this is for housing, employment, shopping, leisure or an open space. Plans also set policies for helping to determine whether a planning application should be approved or refused.

Investment confidence booming in Cannock Chase

Investment confidence in the District is booming following another speculative commercial development gaining planning approval. 

Work on the latest development at Kingswood Lakeside is being branded as ‘Rapida’ and will soon be underway after being granted planning approval late last year.

Cannock Chase Council today warmly welcomed the announcement that Birmingham’s bid to stage the 2022 Commonwealth Games has been successful.

The Games, first staged in 1930 and now held on a four yearly basis, is a unique, world-class multi-sports event with competitions including athletics, swimming, cycling, boxing and many more sports.

Waste & Recycling Collections Delayed

Due to the adverse weather conditions Cannock Chase Councils’ waste and recycling collections had to be suspended on Monday 11 December 2017.

Following reviews at 7.30 am and 9.30 am on Tuesday 12 December 2017, due to the condition of roads and pathways and to improve the movement of traffic across the District, collections have again been suspended for the day, in line with other Staffordshire Councils.

Councillor awarded Etienne-Bach Prize

Councillor Zaphne Stretton MBE has been awarded the Etienne-Bach Prize by the Evangelical Church in Datteln.

Councillor Stretton received the award whilst attending a service in Datteln last month.  This is the first time that this prize has ever been awarded and was given to Councillor Stretton in recognition of her commitment to reconciliation and peace between the British and the German people.
