The stage is set for a musical play, to commemorate the end of the First World War across Cannock Chase District this November, as Cannock Chase Arts Council working with Cannock Chase Council presents ‘The Last Day’.

Through music, song and drama, this fictional play tells the moving story of the ‘The Last Day’ of the First World War – 11 November 1918, from midnight until the fateful hour, 11a.m.

Cannock Chase Council is working closely with Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and local outreach workers to help young people stay safe and keep out of trouble this Halloween and Bonfire.

Halloween can be harmless fun but some members of the community can become distressed by unexpected trick or treaters. Part of a wider ‘Take Care and Be Aware’ initiative, young people are being encouraged to ‘Think – Be Aware Who You Scare’ and to follow some simple do’s and don’ts this Halloween. Cannock Chase Council is delighted by today’s announcement that the Sport and Venue Programme for the Birmingham 2022 Games is confirmed, with Cannock Chase named as the venue for the mountain biking event.

Over 11 days, 17 different sports will take place from 17 July – 7 August across Birmingham and the West Midlands with athletes from 71 nations and countries arriving for the Games and millions will be tuning in to watch this momentous sporting event.

Cannock Chase Council is supporting the Chewing Gum Action Campaign this month, an annual campaign to tackle chewing gum litter across the District.

The annual campaign, which is being run during October across the country aims to educate people to think twice before dropping their chewing gum on the street.

The Chewing Gum Action Group is supported by Keep Britain Tidy, who want to see chewing gum littering substantially reduced by 2020 and all but eradicated by 2030.

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet approved at its meeting last night to invest £55k into the Districts CCTV.

There are 91 cameras cross the District which were installed in 1998, and following a full audit review 26 have been identified as in need of essential replacement.

Across the District CCTV cameras record images continuously 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

CCTV is a deterrent to crime and with systems such as the Council’s, CCTV footage is frequently utilized by the police and can result it the perpetrators of crime being brought to justice.
