Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet approved to introduce the Swift smart card travel scheme on bus services in the Cannock Chase District, at its meeting last night.

This investment is a result of the Council being a non-constituent member of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and Cannock Chase is the second area to receive this scheme.  The Council will allocate £20,000 to fund the installation of the Swift card readers in key locations around the District.  Arriva and National Express West Midlands buses are already equipped to accept Swift cards.

Cannock Chase Council has published its new Corporate Plan which sets out the priorities and focus for the future in the District.

There are two new priorities for 2018-2023, of `Promoting Prosperity` and `Community Wellbeing`.  These replace the previous five priorities as part of a more focused and cohesive approach. The plan follows a public survey which closed in December 2017 and consultation with partners.

The corporate plan not only sets out the priorities for the next five years, it also looks back at key achievements delivered as part of the last corporate plan.

Cannock Chase Council has been working with Brereton Millions on their project to upgrade the play facilities at Ravenhill Park in Brereton. 

Brereton Millions / Support Staffordshire successfully secured Big Lottery Funding and procured a contractor, Playdale, to design and install the new equipment and a Project Manager to oversee its delivery.

The Leader of Cannock Chase Council, Councillor George Adamson, has made a full public response to a petition submitted by Amanda Milling MP requesting the abolition of charges for street furniture such as A boards and tables / chairs, which are seen by some as a direct tax on businesses.

Three children from Gorsemoor Primary School in Heath Hayes have received a Good Junior Citizen award from Cannock Chase Council.

The award was presented at the school assembly last month to Elle Meeson, Keeley Warren and Travis Greensill for their litter picking in Hednesford Park after school.  Dallas Greensill (Travis' older brother) also received an award.

The Good Junior Citizen Award aims to recognise the positive contributions that children aged 11 and younger are making to their local community.

A decision has been taken by St. Modwen (leaseholder and operator of the Multi Storey Car Park in Cannock Town Centre), that due to concerns about the structure and repair of the car park they have decided to close this car park for further investigation and to ensure the health and safety of its users.

Cannock Chase Council has published its ‘Decision Statement’ for the Hednesford Neighbourhood Plan and recommended that it proceeds to referendum. 

Following an Independent Examination of the Hednesford Neighbourhood Plan, Cannock Chase Council has recommended that the Hednesford Neighbourhood Plan proceeds to referendum, subject to modifications.

The Decision Statement sets out that the Hednesford Neighbourhood Plan (as modified) meets the basic conditions and other relevant legal requirements (as set out in the Localism Act 2011 and supporting regulations).

Cannock Chase Council has retained its top performing District Council status in the West Midlands, after scooping six Green Flag awards for the second year running.

Green Flag Award winners were revealed on 17 July 2018 nationwide, and Cannock Park, Elmore Park, Ravenhill Park, Castle Ring, Stile Cop Cemetery and Hednesford Park all exceeded the strict criteria required to be the best public open spaces in the UK.
