Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has approved spending of £120,000 to improve the play area and open space at The Cema in Norton Canes.

The money has been allocated from section 106 funds collected from the housing development south of the Red Lion Lane in Norton Canes.

The improvements will include a new fully equipped play area, circular footpaths, a community sculpture, landscaping and green gym equipment. Consultation will be taking place with local schools and the community to help inform how the play area and open space will look.

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has approved spending of £48,322 on improvements to the open space adjoining Fortescue Lane, Bonney Drive and Eaton Drive in Rugeley.

Cannock Chase Council is delighted to announce that Sketts street market will be coming to Cannock town centre for an additional day this Monday (23 December), to help shoppers with their last minute Christmas shopping.

Cannock’s regular street market usually takes place on a Friday, but Sketts have agreed that they will provide the normal street market for an additional day prior to Christmas, offering shoppers a wide variety of goods and produce from over 25 stalls.

Cannock Chase Council is aware of an odour within the vicinity of the Poplars Landfill Site and Anaerobic Digestion Facility located on Lichfield Road in Cannock. The site is owned and operated by Biffa Waste Services Ltd.

The Environment Agency has an Environment Permit in place with Biffa which allows the company to operate the site. It includes conditions relating to the monitoring and control of odour.

As the site is regulated by the Environment Agency, the Council has no powers to enforce these conditions.

Cannock Chase Council has successfully prosecuted three people for illegally evicting a tenant from her home in Rugeley.

Nigel Whorton from Lichfield, Jonathon Williams from Sutton Coldfield and Rebecca Brayshaw from Eccleshall were all found guilty of offences under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, after depriving a tenant in Rugeley from occupation of her home and committing acts likely to interfere with her peace and comfort.

The Chase Community Safety Partnership is helping residents stay safe this Christmas with the launch of a new campaign ’12 days to a safer Christmas’.

The festive season can be a very busy time during which it’s easy to take your eye off the ball when it comes to crime prevention. The campaign will run from 5 December until 20 December and will remind people how to keep safe and within the law during the lead up to the festive period.

A lorry seized by the Council following its involvement in fly tipping is due to be auctioned next week. 

The lorry was seized by Environmental Health Officers within days of it being used to fly tip waste in the District in August 2019.  Although the driver ran from the vehicle at the time it was stopped, the offences continue to be investigated.

Three candidates will be contesting the Cannock Chase Parliamentary Constituency General Election on Thursday 12 December 2019.

The 2019/20 recycling calendars are on their way to residents in Cannock Chase. 

The new calendars will be distributed to over 43,500 households in the District over the next few weeks and include collection changes over the Christmas period.

The calendars which form part of an information booklet, include a recycling guide with easily understandable graphics of which item goes in which bin; in addition to collection times and requirements and maximum weight capacity for bins.
