Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have agreed to adopt a new approach –‘Health in All Policies (HiAP)’ to help the Council identify how best to tackle health inequalities within Cannock Chase District.

Cannock Chase Council’s Environment Team has been delivering environmental awareness sessions in primary schools across the District as part of a new engagement programme addressing environmental issues.

Taxi drivers in the Cannock Chase District were subjected to a taxi test purchase operation last month.

A small number of five taxis were tested over one evening in December last year.  The purpose of a taxi test purchase operation is to ensure that licensed drivers in the District are not overcharging, refusing fares without reasonable cause and are using the meter appropriately.

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet is to consider the future of Cannock Indoor Market Hall at its next meeting on 30 January when councillors will discuss the results of a consultation with stallholders and the public carried out last October.

The long term financial viability of the indoor market is in doubt despite investment from the Council in recent years to improve its entrance and raise its profile in the town centre, adjusting the opening times to reflect shoppers’ habits and regular marketing and promotional work undertaken.

Cannock Chase Council is set to lose £1.2 million as a result of changes to the Rateable Value of the warehouse and premises owned by Amazon at Gazeley Park in Rugeley.  Overall the company will receive in the region of £3.2 million as a refund.

The refund back dates to the site opening in August 2011.

A new campaign addressing extremism and radicalisation is launching in schools across the District this week as part of the Cannock Chase Council’s safeguarding work.

The Council’s Community Safety Team has commissioned Loudmouth Education & Training to create and deliver a brand new theatre in education programme on extremism to students in Year 8 and 9. The programme will consist of a 30 minute piece of interactive drama followed by workshops. The workshops will use the drama to encourage further discussions in a safe environment.

Residents in Rugeley can now enjoy state-of-the-art equipment and a quality fitness experience following the completion of a £500,000 investment at Rugeley Leisure Centre.

It brings the total investment in leisure centres in Cannock Chase to more than £1.5M following the redevelopment of Chase Leisure Centre in early 2019.

The Limited Company and the two individuals responsible for operating a former Cannock nightclub have pleaded guilty to health and safety offences following a tragic accident which resulted in the death of a former customer of the club.

Cannock Chase Council is asking for help to find the owner of a dog and a white Citroen Dispatch van registration SL09 WVK. On Monday 6 January the van was found unattended in Green Lane in Bridgtown near Cannock. In the rear of the van a dog was found chained to the floor with no food or water. The van may have been there for some time. It disappeared later that day.
