Rugeley bite back at loan sharks with new campaign

The England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) in partnership with Cannock Chase Council and Staffordshire Police are launching a new campaign in Rugeley to raise awareness of the dangers associated with borrowing money from loan sharks.

The 'Bite Back’ campaign is a week-long initiative which will start on 21st November in Rugeley. During the week, IMLT Staff will deliver training sessions to frontline staff and Police to help combat loan sharks and direct victims to the appropriate help and support available.

Extra help for victims and witnesses of antisocial behaviour

Victims of antisocial behaviour can get extra help and support as part of the Victim Support service that is being delivered across Cannock Chase District.

Cannock Chase Council has teamed up with Staffordshire Victim Support to help witnesses and victims of antisocial behaviour whether or not they wish to report the issue to the authorities.

Successful prosecution of working men’s club

Cannock Chase Council has successfully prosecuted Chadsmoor Progressive Working Men’s Club for failing to comply with a noise abatement notice.

The notice was served on the premises in August 2015 following an investigation into complaints that live bands playing at the premises were causing a noise nuisance. The Council continued to receive complaints of noise nuisance following service of the notice and officers confirmed the noise levels to be excessive on nights when the live bands were playing.

Over 50 trees sponsored by local businesses, schools, clubs, societies and charities

Councillor George Adamson will open the fifth annual St Luke’s Church Christmas Tree Festival on Wednesday evening 23 November at 7.30pm.  The evening events will also include a variety of seasonal music performed by The Songbirds in Harmony Choir and The Cannock Chase High Performance Flute Ensemble as guests enjoy the magic of music by Christmas Tree lights.

Cannock Chase Council hosted a business support event as part of the Staffordshire Business Festival this week.

Pastries, Prospects and Patter took place at The Moat House in Acton Trussell, a free event held for local businesses.

Business enthusiast and Author Dale Stafford was the guest speaker who spoke passionately about what it takes to be a success in business, as well as sharing experiences with the audience in a lively Q&A session.

Council supports national Fire Kills Campaign

Fire Minister Brandon Lewis has urged people to test their smoke alarms after research showed that only 28% of all households who own one test them on a regular basis.

As the Fire Kills campaign launched on Monday 7 November, the Minister has highlighted the importance of having at least one working smoke alarm in your home and encouraged everyone to test their smoke alarms immediately and then regularly every month.

Deferred tree felling starts next week

The deferred tree felling in the tree avenue, Hednesford Park has now been agreed and will start next week.

The trees that have been selected for removal are 14 poplars, 1 lime and 1 sycamore.  This is essential management and part of the ongoing improvement works part funded through the Heritage Lottery Grant for Hednesford Park. The space will enable the main avenue trees to develop and fill out.

Time to clean some space on your fridge, as the new waste and recycling calendars are on their way to residents in the District.

The new calendars will be distributed to 42,500 households in the District over the next few weeks.

Cannock Chase parkrun is coming soon!

On the 19 November 2016, Cannock Chase will play host to the very first parkrun in the District.

Cannock Chase parkrun funded by the Chase Community in partnership with four local running clubs, will see runners turn out weekly on Saturday mornings at 9am to take part in a 5K timed run at  Marquis Drive Country Park.

Parkrun organise free, weekly (Saturday mornings) 5K timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, are free, safe and easy to take part in.
