Contamination campaign hailed a success

Cannock Chase Council thanks residents following the launch of their contamination campaign, as 87% of the District are doing extremely well and getting the right item in the right bin.

The contamination campaign was launched in August this year, following an increased number of contaminated loads being discovered at the recycling facility.

Cannock Chase Council has published the findings of a peer review report which took place in September this year.

The report praises the Council’s “notable progress” and “strong ambition” and sets out a number of recommendations for further development.

Cannock Chase Council is working closely with Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, detached youth teams and a local sporting group to help young people stay safe and keep out of trouble this Halloween and Bonfire.

Eligible residents urged to get the flu jab and ‘stay well this winter’

Cannock Chase Council is supporting the ‘Stay Well This Winter’ campaign (SWTW) and urging vulnerable residents in the District to get their flu jab if eligible.

The campaign launched by Public Health England (PHE) and NHS England aims to help children and the vulnerable stay well over the winter months, in the biggest ever flu vaccination programme in England. 

At risk adults, including those with long-term health conditions, pregnant women and those over 65 will also be offered flu vaccination.

Council wins award for collaborative working

Cannock Chase Council has scooped an award for collaborative working, for the recently launched Good Life Deals app and has been high commended for the Let’s Grow Grant at a recent award ceremony.

The awards were handed out at the FSB Local Authority Awards ceremony last month hosted by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Hednesford Park tree avenue management to commence

The next phase of tree removal in Hednesford Park will commence later this month, with some of the over mature popular and sycamore trees in Tree Avenue being removed.

This is essential management and part of the ongoing works to Hednesford Park following a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant which was received in 2012 for £2.2M.

Resident fined for selling vehicles from his property

Cannock Chase Council has successfully prosecuted a resident who sold and stored vehicles from his property.

Mr John Birch of Badgers Way, Heath Hayes pleaded guilty to the charge of non compliance with an Enforcement Notice under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990; at Newcastle Under Lyme Magistrates Court on Monday 3 October.

Mr Birch had been advertising cars for sale in the Autotrader between 27 April and 28 July, thereby operating a car sales business from his domestic premises.

Cannock Chase ranked top 10 in the country for food hygiene scores

Cannock Chase is ranked in the top 10 Districts in the country, when it comes to the proportion of businesses that pass food hygiene inspections, according to a recent Guardian report.

Cannock Chase Council, along with all other local authorities in England and Wales, participates in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.  This scheme provides consumers with information about hygiene standards in food premises, at the time they are inspected by local authority officers to check compliance with legal requirements.

Cannock Chase Council is proud to be a partner of The Staffordshire Business Festival, organised by the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce. The 2 week festival will include over 60 events across the county and runs from Monday 7 November to Friday 18 November.

The festivals aim will be to facilitate better engagement between companies, organisations and business communities across Staffordshire.
