Free microchipping of dogs for Cannock Chase Residents

Cannock Chase Council working in conjunction with the Dog’s Trust and Swan Pit Kennels, Gnosall is offering residents who own a dog the chance to get it microchipped at a free microchipping event.

The event will take place at Victory Hall, Slitting Mill Lane, Slitting Mill on Saturday 2nd April from 10am-3pm, before the new law comes into force on 6th April 2016.

The Dogs Trust is providing the microchips and staff from Swan Pit Kennels, in Gnosall, will be implanting them in dogs free of charge. 

Council assists logistics company relocate to bigger premises

Cannock Chase Council has worked with EDS Couriers to find larger premises to enable the company to stay in the District.

EDS Couriers who has premises in Bridgtown, which they were outgrowing fast, contacted the Council to help them find bigger premises.

The Council were aware that TNT were vacating their site in Wimblebury, which was suitable for EDS and would give them further growth potential.

Concerns over community pharmacy provision

Cannock Chase Council urges Department of Health and NHS England not to undermine the community pharmacy provision with proposed changes.

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC), the Department of Health and NHS England, set out changes that they wish to make to the way that community pharmacies operate, together with an overall reduction in funding in a joint letter last December.

Jobs fair set to take place in the District this spring

Cannock Chase Council in collaboration with Job Centre Plus and Chase Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a jobs fair in Cannock this spring.

The jobs fair will be free for everyone and aims to bring together jobseekers and providers with vacancies and give them the chance to talk about any employment opportunities available.

Councillor Gordon Alcott Portfolio Leader for Economic Development and Planning said “we are looking for local employers, who have any job or apprenticeship opportunities to exhibit at our jobs fair.

Cannock Indoor, Prince of Wales and Skett’s Street Market events will start from 10am on Good Friday (Friday 25th March), where children will be greeted by Anna from Frozen, there is a free face painter, an Easter egg hunt, an Easter bunny handing out chocolate, street music playing and Cannock Chase Radio playing live in Market Hall.

Activities continue on Saturday 26th March with hunt the Easter bunnies in Cannock Market Hall, the owl experience and Natasha Marie, a female vocalist live from 10am-2pm.

Shopmobility Scheme

Cannock and Rugeley’s Shopmobility Scheme is under review following a drop in usage figures.

The Shopmobility Scheme provides mobility equipment, such as wheelchairs and motorised scooters for anyone with mobility issues, to hire and use in Cannock and Rugeley town centres.

Councillor Diane Todd, Portfolio Leader for Town Centre Regeneration said “Cannock Chase Shopmobility Scheme was set up in 2011, following the pedestrianisation of the town centres, meaning that it is not always possible for people to park or be dropped off close to the shops.

Leader of the Council visits sheltered housing scheme following the 30th anniversary of its opening.

Leader of the Council George Adamson, has visited residents at Grace Moore Court, to mark the 30th anniversary of its opening.

Grace Moore Court is a sheltered housing scheme of 20 flats, managed by Cannock Chase Council.  It was built in March 1985, with the first stone being laid by Councillor George Adamson.

Local Councillors from Cannock Chase Council visit the proposed site for an artificial grass pitch on Bradbury Lane in Hednesford.

Members were invited to look at plans for an artificial grass pitch (AGP) which include a fenced full-sized floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch (AGP) and a new changing pavilion at the site of the former West Cannock Sports and Social Club on Bradbury Lane in Hednesford.

Games area nears completion

Local Councillors visit the multi-use games area (MUGA) at the Cannock Stadium site as it nears completion.

Works on the derelict multi-use games area started in February, and is set to be complete at the end of March.

The MUGA will enable 11-16 year olds to play recreational football, basketball and cricket in a purpose built floodlit area.

Report highlights the impact of Supporting People cuts

A report to Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has highlighted the impact the withdrawal of the Supporting People grant funding will have on vulnerable people in the District.

Supporting People funding helps the most vulnerable people in the District, such as single homeless with support needs or teenage parents, withdrawal of this funding means these people could lose their support networks and accommodation.
