Castle Ring celebrates 100 years as a Scheduled Ancient Monument

Castle Ring, one of Staffordshire’s most iconic landmarks, has reached a remarkable milestone: 100 years since being designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument. First listed on 30 November 1925, this treasured Iron Age hillfort stands proudly as the highest point on Cannock Chase, offering breathtaking views and a window into our region’s rich history.

Join the Centenary Photo Trail 

To mark the anniversary, Cannock Chase Council has launched the Castle Ring Centenary Photo Trail on the free Cannock Chase Can App. This interactive challenge invites explorers of all ages to:

  • Capture 10 landmark photos around Castle Ring, focusing on history and wildlife
  • Unlock points as you complete the trail
  • Discover fascinating stories about the site’s heritage and natural environment

The challenge can be found under the Feel Well and Naturally Well sections of the app, available on both iOS and Android. It’s a fun way to celebrate local heritage, stay active, and enjoy the great outdoors. To access the challenge, follow the instructions below.
