The Countryside Service runs a weekly volunteer session open to adults wanting to help out on our nature reserves across the Cannock Chase District, by carrying out a range of countryside management tasks.
Tasks can include anything from habitat management such as heathland and grassland scrub control, woodland coppicing and invasive species management; to a range of site maintenance activities including fencing works, footpath maintenance and general site upkeep e.g., litter picking.
Days typically run each Friday from around 10:00am to approximately 2:00pm, with volunteers meeting staff on site on the day of the activity. Volunteers are notified every Wednesday with information for the weekly session including activity, meeting location, facility access and run times.
All training and tools are provided by the Countryside staff. It is recommended that outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear is worn when attending, and to bring a packed lunch for the day.
The Countryside Service also provides bespoke volunteer days for community and corporate groups by prior arrangement. We can cater for small groups who wish to get involved in one-off tasks and activities.
